The reason behind the change The RCB name was to reflect the official name of the city which is Bengaluru.

In 2014 the government of the state of Karnataka officially changed the name of the city back to Bengaluru.

The team supporters and people of the area had been encouraging the change of name to the new one.

The rebranding effort was also an initiative of making the team more attached to local heritage.

In March 2024, the new name was revealed at the RCB Unbox event.
